RumpusNet IRC
Written by Adrian Hannah

The hosts of the "What's the Rumpus?" podcast have created an IRC server as yet another way to interact with their listeners.  What is IRC?  Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a chat system on the Internet. It allows people from around the world to have conversations together, but it can also be used to have a private one-on-one conversation."

In order to connect to this server, you will need an IRC client of some sort, or you may use our web interface.  While we endorse none of the following, here are some suggested clients to use:

  • For Windows
  • Pidgin (instructions)
  • HydraIRC (instructions)
    • mIRC (instructions)
  • For Mac
  • Pidgin (instructions)
  • Colloquy
  • Linux
  • Pidgin (instructions)
  • Epic
    • BitchX

Once you have it installed you will need to connect to the server.  Most IRC clients are capable of handling irc:// addresses, so try just clicking on the link at the top.

If that doesn't work, you will need to configure the client.  Somewhere there will be a way to Connect or Create New Server, enter the following information:

  • Nick or Nickname: What you want your display name to be.
  • User or Username: This has no bearing on your experience, set this to whatever you want.
  • Server: whatstherumpuspodcast.com
  • Port: 6664
  • Channel: #Rumpus
  • Password: This is only relevant if you register your nickname (to learn how to do this ask in channel!)

If you are not prompted for a channel, after connecting you should be presented with a list of channels to join.  If not you need to type "/join #Rumpus".  Welcome to RumpusNet IRC!  Have fun and obey the rules!
